Biography

Danson Muchemi, JamboPay – Brief Age: 33, Nationality: Kenyan Danson is founder and Chief Executive Officer of JamboPay, an electronic payments services provider. JamboPay provides electronic payments services to thousands of businesses and government organizations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Danson, holds a BSc in Telecommunication and Information Technology from KU and a Diploma in Information Technology from Strathmore University. Danson has over 7 years’ hands on experience in electronic payments in Africa and has a dream of a cashless and prepaid future for Africa. He has confessed to fearing Rats. JamboPay, JamboPay is an electronic payments service provider. The company turns 8 years in November 2016. The company provides electronic payments services to businesses, governments, non-profit organizations and individuals. JamboPay enables users to make payments over the web, mobile, banks and a network of physical agents. JamboPay is now present in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal. JamboPay today serves over 1300 Organizations including governments, insurance companies, media houses, retail outlets, utility companies and farmers. JamboPay employs currently employs 105, 65 employees in Kenya alone. In 2015, JamboPay processed transactions valued at Ksh 28 Billion for its clients. JamboPay started in a cyber café in Nairobi in 2009. The founders did not have the funds to lease an office, acquire furniture and computers but still decided to start anyway. They leased a PC, internet access and two seats at the cyber café for Ksh 4500 (USD 45) a month. Despite the humble start, the company today occupies thousands of square feet in office space in its various offices in four countries and is currently (June 2016) at the architectural planning phase to build its own office complex in Nairobi Westland’s area. JamboPay plans to grow across Africa over the next few years. The team at JamboPay strongly believes in and drives innovation and has won numerous innovation awards including the Google innovation award in financial Services 2013/2014. Danson has been named in the FORBES top 30 under 30 in Africa -2014, Top 40 under 40 Men 2015, the CNBC Africa -All Africa Business Leaders Awards, innovator of the year, East Africa, 2016, Top 100 Choiseul 100 Africa – Economic Leaders for Tomorrow Danson credits JamboPay’s success to its youthful and highly motivated team. Danson is passionate about youth entrepreneurship.
